Root now available for the T-Mobile Galaxy S II

T-Mobile Galaxy S II root

The T-Mobile Galaxy S II has been rooted, thanks to Samsung releasing the kernel source.  Like most Samsung Android phones (and tablets) there’s no trickery involved, you simply flash the new recovery with ODIN and you’re able to flash unsigned update packages, like the one that contains the files needed for root.  The process is pretty easy, thanks to no locked bootloaders or rolling back to engineering builds, and  [Read More…]

First impressions: T-Mobile G1 (three years later)

g1-birth-photo

Exactly three years ago, those who pre-ordered began receiving their T-Mobile G1′s, the little phone that started it all. I was lucky enough to be in that group. After spending several hours with the bronze-colored geegaw on October 20, 2008, I wrote up my breathless, geeked-out thoughts for my personal blog. It’s cute, I was excited about things like “a nice MySpace client.” For nostalgia’s sake, here are my first impressions  [Read More…]

T-Mobile: Apple still hasn’t made an iPhone for us, but how about that Amaze 4G camera

T-Mobile

T-Mobile still doesn’t have an iPhone, in case you didn’t know. (A fact we’re perfectly OK with.) But it does have yet another news release explaining why. Apparently Apple won’t make one that will work on T-Mobile’s 3G and 4G networks. (Never mind that AT&T’s apparently trying to call its HSPA+ iPhone 4S a 4G device.)

Anyhoo, TMo’s Andrew Sherrard, senior vice president of marketing, just wants to remind y’all that they do  [Read More…]

T-Mobile Galaxy S II Review: A new classic that rocks

The Samsung Galaxy S II debuted at Mobile World Congress 2011, and I called it “sweet,” which proved to be an understatement. The hardware was wonderful, the software was a promising upgrade from the mistakes of Touchwiz UI, and things just flat-out worked.

At the time, we felt it could be the most impressive Android phone. Engadget took it a step further to call  [Read More…]

T-Mobile

If you’re a T-Mobile subscriber, or considering it, today is a good day.  Both the HTC Amaze 4G and the Galaxy S II are now available for purchase, rounding out T-Mobile’s already broad selection of Android devices with two more great ones.  Both of these phones will take advantage of the new HSPA+42 network (insert your own number of G’s here) to offer great download speeds with minimal battery life impact, and let’s  [Read More…]

Epic Phone Time: T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II first impressions

What’s up, haters? Thinking about getting a new phone? Well maybe it’s time you took a look at the Samsung Galaxy S II for T-Mobile, the follow-up to last year’s Samsung Vibrant. And while it may be easy to surpass the old-news-Vibrant, that doesn’t mean it will be easy to take on the fresh meat from HTC. Can the Galaxy S II be the  [Read More…]

GSM Nexus Prime visits the FCC, bound for AT&T, possibly T-Mobile?

Nexus-Prime-GSM-Certification

We urged our readers to take rumors that Verizon will get a lasting exclusive on the Nexus Prime with a grain of salt. A recent FCC filing certainly suggests that there will be plenty of Primes to go around.

The phone is identified here as the GT-I9250, but we’ve seen that model number for the Nexus Prime several times now.

The device was cleared on the relevant bands for AT&T and  [Read More…]

T-Mobile Galaxy S II benchmarks redux

T-Mobile Galaxy S II

We recently saw some benchmark numbers for the T-mobile Galaxy S II, and like everything else ever put on the Internet many cried foul.  I hate benchmarks.  They tell me nothing about how a phone acts and feels in real world use; you need to actually use it to determine that.  But since there’s a bit of controversy, allow me to interject a few new pictures.
