Honor 6X hands-on preview: Great hardware desperately waiting for a software update

Honor is still attempting to make strides in the U.S., but is the 6X compelling enough?

You really have to hand it to Honor. Huawei’s millennial-focused offshoot is still spitting out smartphones despite the relatively tepid reception of its previous two devices in the U.S. Remember, Honor has no carrier backing stateside, which puts it at a disadvantage compared to the rest of the brood. It’s unlikely that the launch of the Honor 6X, the smartphone announced  [Read More…]

With Nougat update, OnePlus 3T finally feels like a complete thought

OnePlus’s new flagship shines with Android 7.0 — a phone that’s almost as good as the Pixel for a whole lot less cash.

I have a confession to make: I’ve had a OnePlus 3T for the past month or so, but for most of that time it’s been collecting dust on my desk. The main reason for that has been software; I’ve been spoiled by phones like the Google Pixel and Huawei Mate 9, which have shipped  [Read More…]

The end is here.

T-Mobile has begun administering the drug that will prove fatal to the twice-recalled Note 7, an update that will eventually roll out to all remaining units (some 100,000) in the U.S. The update, which will be required, adds a persistent notification to the Note 7. It also prevents it from being charged, and limits its connectivity to the network. In other words, the update kills the Note 7.

AT&T, Sprint and, reluctantly,  [Read More…]

Running Nougat on LG’s smaller flagship? We want to know what you think!

The LG G5 wasn’t exactly a smash hit, nor did its modular “friends” ecosystem take off. But it’s a solid phone in itself, and one of the few released in 2016 to offer a removable battery. It’s also lightning fast, with one of the best phone cameras to date, in the form of a 16-megapixel main camera and 8-megapixel wide angle shooter.
