Verizon says that it won’t release update to disable Galaxy Note 7

Hot on the heels of Samsung announcing that it will be sending out an update to disable remaining Galaxy Note 7 units out in the wild in the United States, Verizon Wireless has news of its own to announce.

According to Verizon’s statement, they will not send out the update that will disable the Galaxy Note 7. The carrier says that due to the holiday traveling season, it doesn’t feel it’s appropriate to disable some customers’ only method of communication, especially for those who  [Read More…]

Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 is finally picking up the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update in India

Latest MIUI 8 build brings Marshmallow.

Xiaomi sold over 2.5 million units of the Redmi Note 3 in India, and the manufacturer is finally starting to roll out the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to the phone, albeit in beta form. The phone was updated to MIUI 8 — the latest iteration of Xiaomi’s custom ROM — earlier this year, but the base kernel was still Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.

Google app update brings a dedicated news feed to your home screen

Google Now gets broken up into two feeds.

An update rolling out to the Google app breaks up the feed into two separate sections — one dedicated to news updates, and an “upcoming” section that details your personal info, including daily schedule, flight info, appointments, and more.

Nougat update rolling out to unlocked HTC One M9, coming to carrier variants early next year

Unlocked HTC One M9 is now receiving the Nougat update.

HTC has announced that it is rolling out the Nougat update to the unlocked HTC One M9 starting today. The company also stated that carrier variants of the phone will pick up the update early next year.

Huawei Mate 9 gets major software update as release nears

Update to build B126 fixes notification bugs and improves performance and photo quality.

Up to now we’ve been using the Huawei Mate 9 on pre-release firmware, as we noted in our review. Today, ahead of its December launch in Europe, the global dual-SIM version (the model reviewers currently have) has received a major software update, essentially putting it on retail-quality software.

Notifications now work as they should, and camera performance has been tweaked.

Android 7.0 Nougat update now rolling out to T-Mobile’s LG G5

Nougat OTA is now rolling out to T-Mobile LG G5.

T-mobile’s variant of the LG G5 is now picking up the Android 7.0 Nougat update. The update weighs in at 1.2GB, and includes the November 1 security patch.
