HTC’s Vive Focus standalone VR headset is coming to ‘global markets’

Ambiguity aside, this is still really exciting.

Although it may not have a prominent place in the smartphone market, HTC is currently dominating the VR world with its Vive headsets. Shortly after launching pre-orders for its new Vive Pro, HTC’s now confirmed that its Vive Focus headset will be expanding to ‘global markets.’

Per HTC’s official blog post –

Today at GDC 2018, HTC Vive announced that we are bringing Vive Focus to the global markets later  [Read More…]

HTC’s Vive Focus VR headset is super cool, but you can’t have one

It was supposed to be the first Daydream Standalone headset, but HTC is doing something potentially more interesting now.

Back at Google I/O last year, Daydream Standalone was teased as the next big thing in VR from Google. A big part of that plan was a special headset from HTC that didn’t require a phone to work, but instead, we’ll soon be using the Lenovo Mirage Solo as the first Daydream Standalone headset. What happened to the  [Read More…]

You can pre-order the HTC Vive Pro starting at $799

It has been a couple of years since the HTC Vive went up for pre-order (priced at $ 799, too), and now there is a new virtual reality headset to throw your money at.

HTC showcased the Vive Pro earlier this year at the Consumer Electronics Show, and now the VR headset is available to pre-order for $ 799. For that price you get a very, very barebones package: you’ll only receive the Vive Pro headset. That means you won’t get any controllers, Vive  [Read More…]

Fallout 4 VR review: All the scum and villainy, now in your Vive

The Cram and Nuka-Cola taste just as good in VR.

Birds are chirping, your son, Shaun, is safe in his crib, and Codsworth is preparing something in the kitchen. It’s the same intro we’ve seen countless times in the standard version of Fallout 4, except this time I’m physically standing in the middle of my VR room with everything that isn’t nailed down moved away and out of sight.

There’s going to be radiation poisoning (can’t get enough Fancy  [Read More…]

Android 8.0 Oreo review: Vive la évolution

The latest version of Android packs in many small but important additions, all of which make the OS more polished and mature than ever.

Some Android releases represent massive sea changes for Google’s OS, overhauling technical underpinnings or introducing new design elements. Others are content to tighten up the screws and add polish to an already well-established platform.

The new release of Android for 2017/18 — version 8.0 Oreo — fits somewhere in between those two extremes.  [Read More…]

Best HTC Vive games that can be played sitting down

The most fun you can have without getting up from your chair.

One great thing about VR gaming is that it inspires you to get off the couch and exercise a little. But not everyone has that luxury.

We’ve spoken before about how the HTC Vive is a blessing for people with mobility issues, and there are plenty of games that fit the bill! Even if you’re able to be up and about these titles are a  [Read More…]

Standalone HTC Vive VR headset powered by the Snapdragon 835 is heading to China

HTC launches a standalone version of the Vive VR headset exclusively for the Chinese market.

Back at I/O 2017, Google announced that it is working with Qualcomm, HTC, and Lenovo to bring standalone VR headsets to the market. We now have a better idea of what these devices will look like, thanks to a standalone variant of the HTC Vive that’s destined for China. Dubbed Vive Standalone, the VR headset is powered by Qualcomm’s 10nm Snapdragon 835 platform, with  [Read More…]

The HTC Vive is a life-changing product for people with mobility issues

The HTC Vive lets you see the world when you’re unable to go out and be there.

When I first heard about products like the HTC Vive becoming real things you could actually buy, some of my first thoughts were about using one to virtually visit the places and see the sights I’d otherwise be unable to. Mobility issues and white water rafting through the Grand Canyon don’t mix very well, for example.

Fast forward a few  [Read More…]
