Alcatel 1X review, an Android Go phone on a budget that keeps you waiting

Android Go phones don’t get the attention that midrange and flagship phones do, but they serve a valuable purpose. Phones such as the Alcatel 1X provide a device with one of the most recent versions of Android at an affordable price. When I say affordable, I really mean it and Alcatel looks to give you as much as they can for a $ 100 phone.

Samsung’s Galaxy Watch could be the Android smartwatch you were waiting for

Turn the dial to 11.

Samsung’s new Galaxy Watch bears a striking resemblance to the Gear Sport from last year, but it’s refined in a number of ways that, along with the rebranding to bring it closer to the company’s line of Galaxy phones, could help it stand apart.

Available in two watch face sizes, 46mm and 42mm, the Galaxy Watch features an OLED display covered in Corning’s new Gorilla Glass DX+ glass built specifically for wearables.  [Read More…]

Samsung’s Galaxy Watch could be the smartwatch we’ve been waiting for

With Wear OS, Samsung Pay, and more, the Galaxy Watch could be huge.

Smartwatches aren’t quite as popular as they were a couple years back, but in 2018, that may start to change. Google appears to be prepping its own Pixel Watch, Qualcomm’s working on all-new processors for wearable devices, and Samsung’s getting ready to release the Galaxy Watch.

Today, I’d like to take a moment to talk about what Samsung’s doing.

Philips Hue 3.0 is the smart light update you’ve been waiting for

Party people, light up your life.

It’s been a long time in the making — we saw an early demo all the way back at CES — but Philips has finally released its Hue 3.0 app for Android and iOS, overhauling its design and offering much quicker access to presets for individual lights. There are also 30 new scenes created by Philips’ lighting experts, who test combinations of colors and ambiance.

Philips told us that it  [Read More…]

Android Auto was worth waiting three years to buy my car for

I waited three years to buy a CR-V with Android Auto, and it was worth every day.

I used to drive a 2003 Honda Odyssey. During my Disney College Program, she picked up the name Crimson. If anyone needed to move, if anyone needed to haul a crew around, or was taking a road trip, Crimson was our girl. Even at 226,000 miles, I was reluctant to give her up. During three years of car shopping to  [Read More…]

Nokia 8 Sirocco is official – the flagship we’ve been waiting for

Ever since HMD Global’s acquisition of the naming rights to Nokia, the world has been patiently waiting for the company to release a device that will compete with the likes of Samsung and Google. HMD Global positioned Nokia originally as a budget device manufacturer, and it’s worked as Nokia now officially claim 1% of the […]

The Galaxy S9 will be great, but I’m waiting for Google’s Pixel 3

Samsung’s Galaxy S9 is shaping up to be one heck of a phone, but Google’s dedication to the Pixel line has me convinced the Pixel 3 will be even better.

We’re less than a month away from Mobile World Congress, and while the annual tech show in Barcelona is always home to a lot of different announcements, this year’s highlight will be the Samsung Galaxy S9. Months of leaks and rumors have given us a good idea  [Read More…]

Lenovo’s Smart Display is the Google Assistant-powered Echo Show we’ve been waiting for

It’s time for Google Assistant to branch out, starting with displays in the home.

Google Home and Amazon Echo match up in both the small and medium speaker segments, but the hardware offerings start to diverge from there.

Amazon has clearly taken the lead with screen-toting assistant speakers with its Echo Show and Echo Spot, with no response from Google in the category. That is, until now.

Leave it to Lenovo of all companies to make a  [Read More…]

Waiting for the dawn of a new Android theming era

Theming on Android doesn’t require rooting, but theming Android itself almost always does.

We can use third-party launchers to theme our home screens. We can theme our most-used apps to get rid of that searing white and spice things up with some color. We can do so many things to customize Android and make it our own, but theming the Android system itself requires one of two things: a phone with a robust theming engine like the  [Read More…]

Nokia 8 could be the flagship we’ve all been waiting for

Last weekend HMD announced Nokia’s first comeback smartphone, the Nokia 6 – a middle-range device with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box, destined for China (at least at first). But come MWC 2017, we expect HMD and Nokia to reveal something juicer – a flagship Android device. We’ve seen a few images supposedly showcasing
