One of the reasons why the Android platform has experienced such success is due to its openness, which has lead to a wide variety of devices. Ranging from state of the art devices to the most affordable gadgets, there is something for everyone to enjoy. While our attention always focuses on the high-end smartphones and tablets, some affordable devices come around to surprise us every now and then. The Novo7 is one of them, and boy is this a great tablet for $ 100.

We thought that the ASUS Transformer Prime would be the first tablet with Android 4.0. It just so happens that MIPS Technologies and Ingenic Semiconductor have beat ASUS to it. This tablet has been released today, and is the first Ice Cream Sandwich device to hit the market. Aside from being the first Android 4.0 tablet, the Novo7 is not bad at all for a device that only cost $ 100.

Highlights of the Ainovo Novo7 include:

  • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
  • 7-inch capacitive display
  • 1 GHz single-core MIPS-Based XBurst CPU / Vivante GC860 GPU clocked at 444MH
  • WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, USB 2.0, HDMI 1.3 and microSD
  • 2 MP rear and VGA front-facing camera
  • 1080p video decoding

This is not your multi-core power house, but it surely gets the job done for a Benjamin. Its GPU can actually handle 3D gaming and 1080p video, and the tablet even comes with Spider Man pre-installed. It is quite the steal, if you ask us. Ice Cream Sandwich, Android Market (Google Apps), and a very low price tag are a winning combination. Even Andy Rubin is impressed by this product.

I’m thrilled to see the entrance of MIPS-Based Android 4.0 tablets into the market. Low cost, high performance tablets are a big win for mobile consumers and a strong illustration of how Android’s openness drives innovation and competition for the benefit of consumers around the world.Andy RubinGoogle Inc.

Currently, this tablet is only available in China and online, but it is making its way to the rest of the world in the coming months. You can go ahead and get it through Ainol Electrnics’ site. As already mentioned, the tablet only costs $ 100. There will also be an 8-inch and 9-inch version coming soon, but for now, 7 inches is the only option.

Are you guys getting one of these? Some might argue that it is better than the Kindle Fire, which costs twice the price. Check out the video, and hit the comments section to let us know what you think.
