Artist creates fake traffic jams in Google Maps with 99 phones and a wagon

Not all art is beautiful.

What you need to know Artist Simon Weckert was able to create a virtual traffic jam in Google Maps using a cartful of smartphones. He took advantage of Google Maps crowdsourcing capabilities by running navigation on 99 phones and pulling them through the streets of Germany in a wagon. This caused the streets to light up as congested on Google Maps which could lead to drivers being rerouted to other roads.

Fake presidential alerts can be easily sent out using LTE vulnerabilities

The attack has a success rate of 90%.

What you need to know The University of Colorado Boulder discovered a vulnerability with presidential alerts. Using LTE, the alerts can be easily spoofed and sent out to thousands of people. The test was performed successfully 9 out of 10 times.

T-Mobile fined $40 million because it played fake ringtones and lies to rural users about call quality

Unlike the Uncarrier.

The FCC has fined T-Mobile $ 40 million for faking connections to rural customers in Wisconsin, according to a release. It also inserted fake ring tones into those calls to make it seem like they were connecting and failing, even though no one was on the other end of the call to pick up.

Huawei gets caught soliciting fake reviews for the Mate 10 Pro on Best Buy

Huawei got over 100 people to contribute positive reviews for its unreleased Mate 10 Pro on Best Buy.

Searching for topics flooded by fake news will now have a new tag in the top results card with fact checking done by third parties.
