Gingerbread finally overtakes Froyo in Android market share

Android 2.3 Gingerbread debuted on devices in December 2010, but not until November 2011 did Gingerbread surpass its predecessor, Android 2.2 (Froyo). The latest Platform Versions chart shows that Gingerbread accounts for 43.9 percent of phones and tablets accessing the Android Market in the past two weeks, representing the first time that Gingerbread has been on more devices than Froyo (40.7 percent).

AT&T announces the Impulse 4G, a 3.8-inch Froyo device for just $29.99

AT&T this morning announced the Huawei Impulse 4G, a low-end entry into Android and AT&T’s “4G” market. Available Sept. 18 for just $ 29.99 on contract, the Impulse 4G is a 3.8-inch device at the usual 480×800 resolution, running Android 2.2. It’s got a 5MP camera on the back with autofocus and flash, and it records video in 720p. Data plans start at $ 15.
