Hangouts Meet met the same fate yesterday.

What you need to know Google is renaming Hangouts Chat as Google Chat. The change comes after the company similarly dropped the Hangouts from Hangouts Meet. The consumer-oriented Hangouts app will keep its name, however, so the Hangouts brand isn’t quite dead yet.

Google makes advanced Hangouts Meet capabilities free to combat Coronavirus

The free access will run till July 1.

Google Hangouts Meet for Android now supports live captions

Live captions in Hangouts Meet is now just a click away.

What you need to know Support for live captions on Hangouts Meet is now available on the Meet Android app. To enable live captions, all you need to do is tap the closed captions buttons in thee Meet app while you are in a meeting. Live captions will soon be available on the Meet iOS app as well.

Out of office warnings are rolling out to Gmail and Hangouts Chat

Full rollout is expected by September 16.

What you need to know Out of office warnings are rolling out to G Suite users for Gmail and Hangouts Chat. The warning will show up as a banner informing the sender that the recipient is out, and when they will return. The new feature can be disabled in the Calendar settings if you wish not to share your status with others.

I finally gave up on Hangouts for WhatsApp — what took me so long?

Google finally provides timeline for the Hangouts transition to Chat

G Suite customers now know when they need to move to Chat and Meet — the rest of us, not so much.

Following the kerfuffle around the “shutdown” of Hangouts late last year, Google now has a hard-set timeline for the transition from the old “classic” Hangouts (which we all know) to the new Hangouts Chat and Hangouts Meet products.
