Google purchases VR company Owlchemy Labs

Owlchemy Labs is a 23-person team working on VR games for the last six years. The company got into VR early and has had a few big hits like Job Simulator (you might have seen all of YouTube playing it at one point) and Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-ality.

This success has resulted in an acquisition by Google, which allows the company to further their VR endeavors. With projectors like Cardboard and Daydream, Google is invested in mobile VR.

Valve’s Robot Repair Center for HTC Vive puts you inside Portal’s Aperture Labs

While you patiently await the arrival of your HTC Vive virtual reality headset, you can get a new look at what the gaming experience will be like. Polygon has posted a walkthrough of Aperture Labs Robot Repair Center, a VR game set in Valve’s Portal universe that puts you inside Aperture Labs so you can perform, you guessed it, repairs on robots.

Facebook shuts down Slingshot and Riff apps, closes Creative Labs division

Facebook is doing some internal housecleaning, as it has confirmed two of its stand alone Android apps have been removed from Google Play. In addition, the company has decided to shutter its Creative Labs division, which was supposed to allow its employees to help develop new and innovative apps.

Google buys Fly Labs to integrate video editing tech into Google Photos

Google has added another company to its list of acquisitions.

Fly Labs has officially been acquired by Google. The company revealed the news on its website today, saying that it’ll be joining the Google Photos team in Mountain View.

Google adds iPhone video app developer Fly Labs to its Photos team

Google has acquired yet another small company, but this one has previously made apps exclusively for Apple’s iPhone. New York City-based Fly Labs has revealed it will be joining the Google Photos team after releasing apps like Fly, Tempo, Clips and Crop on the Fly in the iOS App Store.

Microsoft acquires Echo Lockscreen creators Double Labs

Microsoft has confirmed the company has bought Double Labs, a startup based in Palo Alto, California that created the popular Android app Echo Notification Lockscreen. Microsoft has already released a similar app for Android, Next Lock Screen.
