Alphabet Q1 2018 earnings: $31 billion revenue leads to $7 billion income

First quarter sees strong double-digit growth overall, with advertising driving a bulk of the business.

Alphabet, the parent company comprised of Google and various other subsidiaries, has just released its Q1 2018 earnings. The top-level numbers are strong: $ 31.1 billion in revenue, leading to $ 7 billion in operating income for the three months. On August 5, Blizzard threw an epic Hearthstone-themed party in L.A., one week ahead of the release of the latest Hearthstone expansion, One Night in Karazhan. IDC releases latest smartphone shipment numbers for China, Xiaomi leads the pack

IDC has released the numbers for smartphone shipments by vendor for Q4 2014. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Xiaomi is on top with a 13.7 percent market share in the fourth quarter — up from 6.5 percent over the previous year. However, Xiaomi’s gain is Samsung‘s loss, as the Korean manufacturer’s year-over-year growth was down 49.9 percent while Xiaomi’s grew by 150 percent.

Android leads U.S. smartphone market share, Google apps are among top used

ComScore had released its mobile market share data for the September 2014. In terms of platforms, Android leads with 52.1 percent followed by iOS with 41.7 percent and Microsoft with 3.6 percent. Both Android and Microsoft grew its market share slightly compared the the prior quarter ended in June 2014. BlackBerry commanded a 2.3 percent market share and Symbian still hangs on with 0.2 percent.

AT&T shuffles key excutives; Glenn Lurie now leads Mobility business

AT&T has just shuffled its leadership giving former AT&T Mobility head Ralph de la Vega a promotion and letting Glenn Lurie fill his old role. Under the new reorganization, AT&T will merge the Mobility and Business Solutions group into one, allowing former Mobility head Ralph de la Vega to head the unit in his new role as CEO of AT&T’s Mobile & Business Solutions Group.

Google announces its Q2 2014 earnings: $16 billion revenue leads to $4.26 billion income

Google has just released its Q2 2014 earnings, where revenues hit $ 16 billion, up 22 percent from the year previous. Operating income was $ 4.26 billion, 27 percent of revenues, up from $ 3.47 billion the year earlier. Net income was $ 3.42 billion in the end, up just slightly from Q2 2013.
