Xiaomi ends Samsung’s six-year dominance in India.

Xiaomi tied with Samsung for the top spot in India’s handset segment late last year, and with the momentum strongly in favor of the Chinese manufacturer, it was only a matter of time before it overtook Samsung. India overtakes the U.S. to become the world’s second-largest smartphone market

With over 220 million active users in 2015, India has surpassed the U.S. to become the world’s second-largest smartphone market. Smartphone shipments saw a YoY increase of 15 percent during Q4 2015, with an overall growth for the year at 23 percent, crossing 100 million units.

Xiaomi is now the leading smartphone manufacturer in China, after surpassing Samsung in second quarter sales. The Chinese vendor, whose name means “little rice” in China, has witnessed a meteoric 240 percent growth from the same period last year.

Google overtakes Apple to become the most valuable brand in the world

Google is now the most valuable brand in the world. According to global market research agency Millward Brown, Google’s brand value increased by 40 percent in a single year to $ 158.84 billion, edging out Apple’s $ 148 billion, which saw a decline of 20 percent. Google has been making its way up the list steadily after overtaking IBM to take the second spot last year.

Gingerbread finally overtakes Froyo in Android market share

Android 2.3 Gingerbread debuted on devices in December 2010, but not until November 2011 did Gingerbread surpass its predecessor, Android 2.2 (Froyo). The latest Platform Versions chart shows that Gingerbread accounts for 43.9 percent of phones and tablets accessing the Android Market in the past two weeks, representing the first time that Gingerbread has been on more devices than Froyo (40.7 percent).
