Samsung posts ‘solid’ Q1 results, forecasts weak Q2 profit due to COVID-19

The company’s Q1 operating profit increased by KRW 0.2 trillion ($ 164 million) in Q1 2020.

Samsung reports 34% dip in Q4 profit despite strong smartphone sales

Samsung’s mobile business registered an impressive 67% increase in operating profit in Q4 2019.

What you need to know Samsung reported revenues of KRW 59.9 trillion ($ 50.7 billion) in the fourth quarter of 2019, an increase of 1% over the same period a year earlier. Samsung’s Q2 2019 profit falls by a staggering 56% after weak memory demand

Analysts expect the memory chip market to recover only in the second half of 2020.

Samsung says its Q2 profit declined by 56% from a year ago

Waning demand in the memory market is putting a dent in Samsung’s bottom line.

What you need to know Samsung is forecasting a profit of $ 5.5 billion in Q2 2019, a massive 56% decline from the same time a year ago. The decline is attributed to slow sales in the memory sector, which is Samsung’ main revenue driver. Phone sales were also lackluster, with Samsung looking to the Note 10 to boosst revenue in Q3.

Samsung forecasts all-time record profit of $15.5 billion in Q3 2018

After a downturn in Q2, Samsung is once again back to shattering profit records.

Samsung is on track to beat the $ 14.6 billion in profits it netted in Q1 2018. In its Q3 2018 earnings guidance, Samsung is forecasting an operating profit of $ 15.5 billion (17.5 trillion won) on the back of revenues of $ 57.5 billion (65 trillion won).

HTC leaves ‘ultra competitive’ entry-level smartphone market to focus on turning a profit

Expect only mid-range and high-end flagships from HTC moving forward.

HTC is hoping that less is more when it comes to smartphone offerings. Chia-Lin Chang, President of HTC’s Smartphone and Connected Device divisions, says the Taiwanese company will stop chasing high sales numbers in the entry-level smartphone markets and instead focus on designing and selling highly profitable devices.

Sony records $205 million profit in Q2 2016, mobile unit finally in the black

Sony has posted its financial results for the quarter ending in June, announcing a modest $ 205 million (¥21.2 billion) operating profit. That’s down from the $ 780 million (¥84.2 billion) recorded during the same period last year. One of the company’s image sensor factories was affected by an earthquake earlier this year, leading to an overall revenue decline of 11% to $ 15.6 billion (¥1.61 trillion).

LG posts Q2 profit in spite of $132 million loss from the mobile unit

LG has announced its Q2 2016 earnings, recording an operating profit of $ 503.1 million (584.6 billion won) over revenues of $ 12.05 billion (14 trillion won). Strong sales of home appliances and TVs offset the mobile unit’s operating loss of $ 132 million.
