Samsung U.S. will repair frontline and healthcare workers’ phones for free

The offer is valid through June 30 and covers a single repair.

What you need to know In a show of solidarity with first responders and healthcare workers, Samsung is offering them one free phone repair. EU wants to extend the lifespan of mobile devices with ‘right to repair’

May even offer buyback programs for older devices.

What you need to know The EU plans to introduce new “right to repair” rules for phones, tablets, and laptops by 2021. It is part of a greater initiative to cut down on e-waste and achieve climate neutrality by 2050. Manufacturers will also be offered incentives to produce products more sustainably as part of the greater Circular Economy Action Plan.

The Galaxy Z Flip is ‘slightly’ easier to repair than the Motorola RAZR

The RAZR had received a repairability score of just 1 out of 10 from iFixit last week.

What you need to know iFixit has posted a teardown video of Samsung’s foldable Galaxy Z Flip. The teardown has revealed that the phone’s “fiber shield” doesn’t do a great job of keeping dust from getting inside. iFixit also found that the phone offers some level of water resistance and is slightly easier to repair than Motorola’s RAZR.
