How to change the Side Key function on the Galaxy S20

The Galaxy S20 is easily one of the best phones of early 2020, with stunning build quality and incredibly powerful specs backed by equally powerful cameras. There’s just one problem: Samsung tries its hardest to make you use its Bixby voice assistant, even going so far as to make Bixby the default action when you long-press the side key (otherwise known as the power button). Thankfully, it’s easy to remove this shortcut and get your power menu back.

Introducing Jiggle Physics, a new Android Central Podcast side quest

I haven’t been here since the beginning, but since coming on as Managing Editor in 2016 I’ve seen Android Central evolve into a site whose name belies its true aspirations. Android Central covers a lot more than just Android — and yes, we know that annoys a bunch of you — and it’s given me immense pleasure to see that transformation in real time.

One area we’ve put a ton of work into is gaming, and PlayStation 4  [Read More…]

Finally, we can be bad guys.

Disney and Lenovo are pushing out the biggest update to the Jedi Challenges experience yet, and releasing some new hardware to accompany the release. The Dark Side Expansion is a free update for existing Jedi Challenges owners, and as the name suggests it allows you to fight and train as the only living wielder of that power in the Star Wars universe today. But since it would be weird to fight  [Read More…]

LG’s cute airport robots show a lighter, more helpful side of technology

There’s more to these big companies than just phones and computers.

When we think about LG as a company, we understandably tend to focus on its phones, TVs and perhaps components — after all, we’re most excited when something like the LG G6 or a new display is announced. But LG is a massive company that does all sort of things with electronics (and beyond), like the cute and helpful airport robots the it announced at CES  [Read More…]

Join the Dark Side with these awesome AMOLED-friendly wallpapers

There are a lot of wallpapers out there. Unfortunately, most of them are bright and busy.

That can be a problem. Maybe you want a simple wallpaper for their elegance. Maybe you want a dark wallpaper that lights up less of your screen. Maybe you want a clean wallpaper so it’s easier to see what’s actually on your screen instead of being overwhelmed by the wallpaper. Maybe you just like black because it goes with everything,  [Read More…]

From the Editor’s Desk: The dark side of selling an app

Use Dark Sky, or don’t use Dark Sky. But don’t tell me it’s somehow not worth $ 3 a year. The math doesn’t lie.

Here we go again. A long-awaited app finally comes to Android — and the developer has the gall to ask for $ 3 a year to use the really good parts of it. Instead of, ya know, mucking the whole thing up with ads, or charging more money a single time, or …

Leaked renders show off the back side of Samsung’s Galaxy S7, S7 edge

A new render has appeared of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge, showing off a rather familiar design. Looking very similar to the previous generation Galaxy S6 line of devices, you have the camera centered at the top, with the flash sitting off to the right of it. On the lower portion of the phone is the branding, and aside from that there isn’t much else to see. It does appear as though the  [Read More…]
