Google using NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor in Project Ara

Google’s shown quite a bit of love to NVIDIA and its Tegra K1 processor lately, throwing the chip into the Nexus 9 and the Project Tango tablet. The love doesn’t stop there, though, as Google has revealed that it’s also using the K1 in Project Ara.

Google to bring Nexus 9’s Tegra K1 processor to Project Ara

Project Ara will offer a few choices in processor selection, and now Google has announced that it is working with Marvell and NVIDIA to bring their application processors as options for the modular smartphone. Both the NVIDIA Tegra K1, the same chip that’s found inside the Nexus 9 tablet, and the Marvell PXA1928 will be joining Rockchip as options for Ara’s processing power.

NVIDIA announced that two new games had launched on the Google Play store that are optimized for the company’s Tegra chipsets for play on the SHIELD Portable handheld gaming device and the SHIELD Tablet. NVIDIA reportedly working on Tegra K1 Android gaming device

NVIDIA is reportedly working on an Android-based gaming device that will be able to run visually intensive titles by offloading graphics processing to a desktop GPU. According to BBC News, NVIDIA’s gaming device will feature the Tegra K1 chipset, which would allow it to natively run Android games. Owners of NVIDIA‘s Android-based Tegra Note 7 tablet should check their device to see if they have an OTA update to download. The company has announced that once that update is installed, the hardware can start streaming Netflix videos in full 1080p.
