California gets its first real alert through Earthquake Early Warning app

Well, 40 people got the warning…

What you need to know California residents have received their first-ever real earthquake alert. The alert went out via the MyShake app, for an earthquake in Parkfield, CA. More than 40 people received the alert about 1 second before it hit.

A select number of California residents have received the first-ever public alert through the app MyShake, a statewide Earthquake Early Warning System.

Samsung’s warning S10 users not to use silicone case covers until patch

Also affects users of the Note 10 who use the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor.

What you need to know The ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensors in the Galaxy S10 and Note 10 series phones can be bypassed using certain silicone protectors. Samsung is advising that users remove these protectors for the time being and rescan their fingerprints. A software update to fix the issue is expected as early as next week.

Ola and Uber suspend surge pricing in Delhi after government warning

Ride-sharing services Uber and Ola have announced that they will temporarily suspend surge pricing after receiving a warning from Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The city is trialling an odd-even rule to combat congestion on its roads, and has set prescribed fares for taxi services at ₹16 per km for air-conditioned cabs and ₹14 for those without air conditioning.

Hey Google, don’t just change fundamental parts of my launcher without warning

Since it became available I’ve been using the Google Now Launcher on pretty much every phone. Though it’s of course pre-loaded on Nexuses and now Motorola phones, I even go out of my way to install it on my Galaxy Note 5 and Shield Tablet.
