Huawei’s app store is still mostly irrelevant to anyone in the west

Boasting about being so far behind is not a good look even if it’s the only good thing to say.

When I was but a youngster, my father was a mechanic for one of the local stock car drivers. At the risk of showing my age, I can remember that somehow local promoters convinced Richard Petty to race at the little local track. In the weeks before that day, I can remember those local drivers saying how  [Read More…]

It’s getting (slightly) easier to get your custom smart glasses from North with two new West Coast locations.

If you’ve been eying those new Focals smart glasses, but live way too far from any North Showroom, you may be in luck. Two new pop-up locations are making there way to across the country to the best coast … I mean, the West Coast starting February 19.

For the select few, this means you’ll finally be able to  [Read More…]

What I’m using: LD West smartphone holster

My phones don’t fit in my pockets.

I’m not talking about an Galaxy S7 Edge or a Nexus 6P, either. My HTC 10 does not fit comfortably in my front pockets. My Nexus 5X does not fit comfortably in my front pockets. Google Play no longer is the Wild West, and that’s good for developers and users

The news that Google is now reviewing apps submitted to Google Play is bound to draw the ire of folks who prefer a wide-open Internet. But the long-term ramifications mean better apps for all.

There have been some pretty clear battle lines drawn within Android Central over the years, even if the two sides aren’t readily apparent publicly. For some time I’ve advocated that Google need some sort of screening process for apps submitted to Google  [Read More…]

Xiaomi has a lot of work to do before a U.S. launch, and it isn’t in any rush

Xiaomi sold more than 50 million phones in 2014, has dozens of engineers and design staff and is followed by a gigantic diehard fan base. But unless you live in China or India, you probably don’t know that much about it. Of course the more hardcore Android fans among us may have heard of that hard-to-pronounce smartphone maker,  [Read More…]
